Oscars - 83rd Academy Awards

1. The King's Speech 2. Black Swan 3. Inception

A noite dos Oscars não trouxe muitas surpresas, mas foi mais uma grande festa do cinema, cheia de brilhos e palmas, de música e imagens marcantes, de vestidos e flashes.

Fiz questão de acompanhar a transmissão de toda a cerimónia, algo que acho que nunca tinha feito, embora não tenha visto todos os filmes nomeados e por isso não possa dar uma opinião absolutamente informada. Ainda assim acho que os vencedores foram justos, residindo a minha única dúvida na unanimidade do reconhecimento dado a'O Discurso do Rei, que foi o grande vencedor da noite, levando para casa as estatuetas principais a que se propôs: Melhor Filme, Melhor Realizador, Melhor Actor Principal (Colin Firth, sem dúvida, merecido!) e Melhor Argumento Original.

Não questiono a vitória nem a considero injusta, porque na verdade não sei que título escolheria em alternativa para melhor filme do ano... dos 10 nomeados só vi 3 e entre eles não está sequer um dos grandes favoritos: A Rede Social, que se esperava dar reconhecimento ao trabalho de David Fincher, pelo menos enquanto realizador - um dos mais marcantes da sua geração.

Não tenho dúvidas, no entanto, quanto ao Oscar de Melhor Actriz Principal, porque depois de ver O Cisne Negro, todas as críticas positivas, já ouvidas até à exaustão, ao desempenho de Natalie Portman são mais do que merecidas: o filme é intenso e marcante, em grande parte pela entrega da actriz à atormentada e difícil personagem.
Embora não tenha visto o filme, gostei também do reconhecimento dado a Christian Bale, um actor que já admiro há muito e que teve na sua primeira nomeação a oportunidade de vencer o Oscar para Melhor Actor Secundário.
Outro filme que considero um vencedor, apesar de ter vencido apenas categorias técnicas, é A Origem, de Christopher Nolan - para mim, uma das boas surpresas cinematográficas do ano passado.

Muitas outras estatuetas foram entregues: em categorias técnicas, musicais, de animação ou de documentário, mas são estes os nomes que mais me ficam na memória... agora resta fazer perdurar a magia do cinema e esperar com curiosidade pelos filmes da lista que ainda faltam ver!

The night of the Oscars didn't bring many surprises, but it was a great celebration of cinema, full of sparkles and clapping, music and striking images, beautiful dresses and flashes.

I made sure to watch the transmission of the entire ceremony, but I haven't seen yet all the nominated films and therefore can't give an absolutely informed opinion. I still think the winners were fair, my only question lies on the unanimity given to The King's Speech recognition, who was the night's big winner, taking home four of the main statuettes: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor in a leading role (Colin Firth, who certainly deserved it!) and Best Original Screenplay.

I don't question the victory and I don't consider it unfair, because I really wouldn't know which alternative title to chose as best film of the year... there were 10 nominees and I only saw 3 of them, not including one of the favorites: The Social Network, that was expected to give recognition to the work of David Fincher, at least as filmmaker - one of the most significants of his generation.

I have no doubt, however, about the Oscar for Best Actress, because after seeing The Black Swan, all the positive critics to the performance of Natalie Portman are more than deserved: the film is dramatic and intense, largely because of the commitment of this great actress to the tormented character.
I haven't seen The Fighter, but I also liked the recognition given to Christian Bale, an actor that I admire for long and who had in his first nomination the chance to win the Oscar for Best Actor in a supporting role.
Another film that I consider a winner, despite winning only technical categories, is Inception, by Christopher Nolan - for me, one of the best cinematographic surprises of last year.

There were many other winners: in technical categories, music, animation or documentary, but these are the names that I keep in my memory... now I shall perpetuate the magic of cinema and wait with curiosity to watch the movies I don't know yet!
