Feiras, mercados, mostras... novos criadores, artesanato urbano... enfim!

Fairs, markets, shows... new designers, urban craft... Lately there are many events and terms that appear to classify this recent (hopefully more than a) trend.
In Porto there are several regular craft fairs that promote new artists who are trying to recover the traditional know-how, a creative lifestyle, or simply the desire to create... and also to expose, promote and sell their creations.

On one hand I like the proliferation of events and ideas, but on the other hand I can't help feeling unsatisfied with some of the results... but, as nothing can be perfect, let us focus on the extremely positive factors of the phenomenon: creativity is promoted, entrepreneurship wins wings to fly, the growing awareness about the unique value of handmade, the celebration of a lifestyle lived to the human speed... and why not? the opportunity that's given, to me also, to create and show my creations.

After a few months paused, now in summer I decided to participate in some events where you can visit me and see my creations live. Last Saturday, after a grey morning full of rain, I didn't want to risk and chose not to participate in Mercadinho dos Clérigos (a regular craft fair downtown) as I had planned... but new fairs will come! And the next ones will be later this month of July, in Porto. Soon I'll let you know more... stay tuned!

  1. Fairs... *sigh*
I used to love to go to fairs to meet people and show my work and interact with those who showed interest. But nowadays, it just seems like too much work to wrap everything up and go to a fair for only a few hours. It's tough to make deccissions like this isn't it?
I try to go to the ones where I feel the there will be the right public for my work. It keeps me enthusiast and makes it fun.
Goodluck on your fair season, Ana!

  2. We still like to join craft fairs, but we have to think about why it should be worth. To join, just because we want "to be part of" is nonesense. Because it's just too much work for the outcome sometimes.
But we found out, that a craft fair is a great place to network with other sellers in the handmade sector, too.
