Quando a fome é gula
Se a fome é uma necessidade primordial, o prazer provocado pelo açúcar é um luxo só explicado pelo excesso da gula.
A joalharia está no limite entre o objecto útil e a aparente inutilidade da arte e nesse contexto, a joia será o açúcar que colocamos sobre a roupa que vestimos para dar-lhe mais sabor - para dotar o útil do luxo da beleza.
Enquanto a joia de prata é concretizada, o lixo acumula-se em forma de limalha - um pó prateado que lembra areia ou açúcar refinado. Se for recolhida, pode ser transformada de novo em prata possível de trabalhar, numa espécie de reciclagem circular. Mas porque não integrar a limalha na joia? Como se o lixo a que o luxo dá origem se tornasse, ele próprio, protagonista.
A GULA, celebrando o prazer de criar um objecto belo que pode ser usado, trata a limalha de prata como se fosse açúcar, integrando na mesma peça formas utilitárias reconhecíveis e transformando-as em elementos simbólicos que, descontextualizados e fora de escala, exaltam a sua inutilidade prática.
Quando usada, a GULA adverte para os perigos de cedermos ao prazer puro e simples, tornando o instrumento para alcançá-lo inacessível - porque se a fome é o sintoma de uma necessidade, a gula é, talvez, um prazer tão necessário como a beleza que anseia ser contemplada.
[A GULA é um colar composto por dois pendentes inspirados num bolo sobre um naperon e numa colher, em que o açúcar é representado pelo reaproveitamento de limalha de prata.
Materiais utilizados: prata 925, banho de ouro, limalha de prata, resina, pérolas de água doce e fio de nylon.
A palavra gula deriva do latim gula, que significa esófago, garganta, goela. Curiosamente, é também a palavra usada para açúcar, em indonésio.]

When hunger is gluttony
If hunger is a primary need, the pleasure caused by sugar is a luxury only explained by the excess of gluttony.
Jewelry lies between the useful object and the apparent uselessness of art and in this context, the jewel is the sugar we put upon the clothes we wear to add more flavor - to provide the useful of the luxury of beauty.
While a silver jewel is produced, garbage accumulates in the form of filings - a silver powder that resembles sand or refined sugar. If collected, it can be transformed back into silver possible to work in a sort of circular recycling. But why not integrate filings in jewelry? As if the garbage that luxury gives rise to could become the protagonist itself.
GULA, celebrating the joy of creating a beautiful object that can be worn, treats this silver filings as if they were sugar, integrating in one piece utilitarian recognizable forms and turning them into symbolic elements, decontextualized and out of scale, in a way to exalt its practical uselessness.
When worn, GULA warns about the dangers of giving in to the pure and simple pleasure, making the instrument to achieve it inaccessible - because if hunger is the symptom of a need, gluttony is perhaps a treat as necessary as the beauty that yearns to be contemplated.
[GULA is a necklace composed of two pendants inspired in a cake on a doily and a spoon, in which the sugar is represented by the reuse of silver fillings.
Materials used: sterling silver, gold plating, silver filings, resin, freshwater pearls and nylon thread.
The word gluttony derives from the Latin gula, which means esophagus, throat, gullet. Interestingly, it is also the word for sugar in Indonesian.]
