A visita à Bauhaus foi sem dúvida um dos pontos altos da viagem a Berlim.
A cerca de 2h de comboio de Berlim, a estação de comboio de Dessau fica a 10 minutos a pé do incrível edifício da Bauhaus desenhado por Walter Gropius em 1925. Fundador e director da escola desde 1919, quando ainda se localizava em Weimar, saiu em 1928, cinco anos antes do encerramento definitivo, graças à imposição do governo Nacional Socialista.
Durante os 14 anos da sua existência a Bauhaus revolucionou a forma como encaramos a sociedade - mais do que uma escola de arquitectura, arte e design, foi um símbolo de mudança e modernidade, ambicionou unir artes e indústria, criando um tipo de ensino baseado na experimentação, influenciando áreas artísticas e sociais até aos dias de hoje.
Actualmente em Dessau é possível visitar vários edifícios ligados à Bauhaus, sendo os mais importantes o edifício da escola e as Casas dos Mestres - um conjunto de habitações também desenhadas por Gropius, onde alguns dos professores viveram com as suas famílias. Dois dos volumes, destruídos durante a guerra, foram reconstruídos em 2014 por Bruno Fioretti Marquez, numa espécie de homenagem abstracta ao passado que não volta.
Impossível não se sentir inspirado num lugar onde tanto aconteceu, onde se cruzaram nomes como Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Josef Albers, Marcel Breuer ou Mies van der Rohe. Parece incrível que 100 anos depois o legado da Bauhaus continue tão vivo, tão surpreendente e extraordinário como sempre. Vale a pena respirar esta magia em Dessau.
Em 2019 serão celebrados os 100 anos da fundação da Bauhaus, haverá um novo Museu em Dessau, renovados Bauhaus Archiv em Berlim e muitas actividades - será sem dúvida uma óptima oportunidade para uma visita, ou quem sabe, para um regresso!

The visit to Bauhaus was definitely one of the highlights of the trip to Berlin.
About 2 hours by train from Berlin, the Dessau train station is a 10-minute walk from the amazing Bauhaus building designed by Walter Gropius in 1925. Founder and director of the school since 1919, while still in Weimar, left on 1928, five years before the definitive closure, result of the imposition of the National Socialist government.
Over the 14 years of its existence the Bauhaus revolutionised the way we view society - more than a school of architecture, art and design, it was a symbol of change and modernity, it sought to unite arts and industry, creating a teaching system based on experimentation, influencing artistic and social areas up to the present day.
Today in Dessau you can visit several buildings linked to the Bauhaus, the most important being the school building and the Masters' Houses - a set of houses also designed by Gropius, where some of the teachers lived with their family. Two of the volumes, destroyed during the war, were rebuilt in 2014 by Bruno Fioretti Marquez, in a kind of abstract homage to the past that doesn't return.
Impossible not to feel inspired in a place where so much happened, where have been names like Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Josef Albers, Marcel Breuer or Mies van der Rohe. It seems incredible that 100 years later the Bauhaus legacy remains as alive, as surprising and extraordinary as ever. It's worth to breathe this magic in Dessau.
In 2019 will be celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of Bauhaus, there will be a new Museum in Dessau, renovated Bauhaus Archiv in Berlin and many activities - it will undoubtedly be a great opportunity for a visit, or perhaps a return!
