Vale sempre a pena uma visita à Bienal de Cerveira!

Depois de ter visitado pela primeira vez no ano passado não quero deixar de voltar. Desta vez o evento decorreu excepcionalmente em dois anos consecutivos, em jeito de celebração dos 40 anos.

Imperdível o passeio pela simpática vila onde cada recanto é invadido por novas expressões artísticas, a visita a cada sala do Castelo, com as obras a concurso, e a ida ao Fórum, onde em cada evento é homenageado um novo artista (desta vez Cruzeiro Seixas). Mas são muitos mais os espaços, as performances e eventos, impossível ver tudo num dia.

Desta vez, um pouco por acaso, tivemos a sorte de assistir a uma visita guiada ao Fórum, onde foi um prazer descobrir mais sobre a história da Bienal e a visão de Jaime Isidoro, pintor e galerista português, que acabaria por lhe dar início.

It's always worth a visit to Bienal de Cerveira!

After going for the first time last year, I don't want to miss it again. This time the event took place exceptionally in two consecutive years, in a way to celebrate the 40 years.

Don't miss a walk through the friendly village where each corner is invaded by new artistic expressions, the visit to each room of the Castle, with the works of the contest, and the Forum, where in each event a new artist is honored (this time Cruzeiro Seixas). But there are many more spaces, performances and events, impossible to see everything in one day.

This time, a bit by chance, we were fortunate enough to attend a guided tour of the Forum, where it was a pleasure to find out more about the history of the Bienal and the vision of Jaime Isidoro, a Portuguese painter and gallery owner, who started it.

Piódão

Piódão parece parada no tempo. Chamada aldeia presépio, parece quase uma miniatura com que alguém decidiu enfeitar uma encosta de montanha, casario-labirinto feito de xisto e recantos esquecidos.

A Casa da Padaria é o lugar ideal para ficar e admirar o conjunto logo pelo sol da manhã. O Solar dos Pachecos a paragem obrigatória para provar os petiscos locais: os maravilhosos queijos e enchidos, as broas de batata e de abóbora.

Estando bom tempo e as piscinas fluviais a funcionar vale a pena refrescar na água gelada e visitar também Foz d'Égua - de carro ou a caminhar pela serra, a distância de cerca de 3km.

Piódão seems to have stopped in time. It seems almost a miniature with which someone decided to decorate a mountain slope, house-labyrinth made of shale and forgotten corners.

Casa da Padaria is the ideal place to stay and admire the scenery by the morning sun. O Solar dos Pachecos is the must stop for sampling the local delicacies: the wonderful cheeses and sausages, the potato and pumpkin local breads.

Being good weather and the fluvial swimming pools open it is worth refreshing in the cold water and also visit Foz d'Égua - by car or walking by the mountain, the distance of about 3km.

Santo Tirso // MIEC + MMAP

Santo Tirso fica tão próximo do Porto que às vezes até apenas a saudade de um típico jesuíta parece pretexto para lá ir.

Desta vez também não faltou o jesuíta para o lanche, mas o motivo principal da visita foi o edifício da autoria de Álvaro Siza e Souto de Moura, inaugurado em 2016. Uma espécie de dois em um por vários motivos, não só pela co-autoria, mas também porque associa um corpo novo à reabilitação da antiga hospedaria do complexo do Mosteiro de Santo Tirso, enquanto alberga o Museu Municipal Abade Pedrosa e funciona como sede do Museu Internacional de Escultura Contemporânea.

O primeiro expõe objectos desde a pré-história em salas límpidas que se repetem ao longo de um corredor que fica na memória, enquanto o segundo se espalha por toda a cidade, com esculturas em parques e espaços públicos que merecem ser visitados com tempo, com ou sem mapa na mão.

Antigo e novo tocam-se subtilmente e convivem um ao lado do outro como dois momentos históricos que naturalmente se sucedem. Gosto que a história das cidades seja contada assim.

Santo Tirso is so close to Porto that sometimes even the wish of eating a typical jesuíta seems pretext enough to go there.

This time the main reason for the visit was the building by Álvaro Siza and Souto de Moura, inaugurated in 2016. A kind of two in one for several reasons, not only by the co-authorship , but also because it associates a new body to the rehabilitation of a building of the complex of Monastery of Santo Tirso, while it houses the Municipal Museum Abade Pedrosa and it serves as headquarters of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture.

The first exhibits objects from prehistory and on in clear rooms that are repeated along a corridor that stays in memory, while the second spreads throughout the city, with sculptures in parks and public spaces that deserve to be visited with time, with or without a map.

Old and new touch subtly and coexist side by side like two historical moments that naturally follow each other. I like when the history of cities is told like this.

E foi assim a inauguração da Remade X, no passado dia 28, na fantástica Casa da Arquitectura, em Matosinhos!

É com muito prazer que vejo a minha GULA seleccionada para esta edição comemorativa do Remade em Portugal, um projecto que tenta sensibilizar os criadores e o público para as questões ambientais, através de exposições periódicas que levam princípios de reciclagem e reutilização para as áreas da arte e design.

Nesta X edição o cenário não podia ter sido mais bem escolhido e eu não poderia sentir-me em melhor companhia, entre criações de nomes como Álvaro Siza, Souto de Moura, Ana Salazar ou Luís Buchinho - todos aqui.

And it was like this the opening of Remade X, last 28th, in the amazing Casa da Arquitectura in Matosinhos!

It is with great pleasure that I see my GULA selected for this commemorative edition of Remade em Portugal  a project that tries to draw the attention of creators and the public to environmental issues, through periodic exhibitions that take principles of recycling and reutilization to the areas of art and design.

In this X edition the scenario couldn't have been better chosen and I couldn't feel in better company, among creations of names like Álvaro Siza, Souto de Moura, Ana Salazar or Luís Buchinho - all here.

New Collections launch! Orpheu + Singular

Muitas novidades no próximo Sábado!
Em dia de Inaugurações Simultâneas em Miguel Bombarda, apresentação de duas novas colecções Ana Pina: ORPHEU, na Galeria Autoria, SINGULAR na scar-id, não percam!

O R P H E U
Na Grécia antiga, Orfeu, poeta e músico lendário, era conhecido por ser capaz de encantar todos os seres vivos - e mesmo os inanimados - com a divina música da sua lira.

No início do século XX, o termo Orfismo foi usado para descrever um tipo particular de cubismo desenvolvido pelo casal Delaunay, que ambicionava transmitir a música através da pintura.

Símbolo da capacidade das artes de se inspirarem mutuamente, Orfeu está agora presente nesta colecção de joalharia: uma interpretação abstracta e minimalista do ritmo sem fim dos movimentos circulares das composições de Delaunay - uma composição para ser ouvida como uma sinfonia, admirada como uma pintura, usada como uma jóia.

A Colecção Orpheu começou por duas peças apresentadas no Desafio Joalharia e Música, do Tincal lab - agora é composta por uma série de peças combináveis entre si, em prata escovada.

No próximo Sábado as novidades serão apresentadas na Galeria Autoria, no Porto!

Como curvas de nível que pousam sobre o corpo, formas orgânicas em diferentes metais desenham memórias de paisagens abstractas e singulares.

On Simultaneous Openings Day at Miguel Bombarda, presentation of two new collections by Ana Pina: ORPHEU at Galeria Autoria, SINGULAR at scar-id. If you're in Porto, don't miss it!

In ancient Greece, Orpheus, legendary musician and poet, was known for being able to charm all living - and even inanimate - beings with the divine music of his lyre.

In the beginning of the 20th century the term Orphism was used to describe a particular kind of cubism developed by the couple Delaunay, that aimed to convey music through painting.

As symbol of the ability of arts to inspire each other, Orpheus is now present in this jewelry collection: an abstract and minimalist interpretation of the endless rhythm of circular movements of Delaunay’s compositions - a composition to be heard as a symphony, admired as a painting, worn as a jewel.

Orpheu Collection started by two pieces presented in the Challenge Jewelry and Music, by Tincal lab - now is composed of a set of pieces in brushed silver, perfect to be combined.
Next Saturday the news will be presented at Galeria Autoria, in Porto!

Mês da Arquitectura da Maia // João Álvaro Rocha

Vale a pena passar no Fórum da Maia antes do final do mês, para uma visita à exposição que marca a primeira edição do Mês da Arquitectura da Maia.

Dedicada ao arquitecto João Álvaro Rocha, a exposição é composta por esquiços, desenhos técnicos, fotos e maquetes - e, embora, enquanto arquitecta, percorra esta mostra com todo o cuidado e admiração, gosto de pensar que, mesmo quem não partilha deste gosto a nível profissional, é capaz de encontrar aqui motivos para olhar de outro modo para o mundo construído que o rodeia.

Durante o mês houve ainda debates e visitas guiadas, mas, se tal como eu não chegaram a tempo, aproveitem para pelo menos ver a exposição - o traço de João Álvaro Rocha fala por si!

It's worth going to Fórum of Maia before the end of the month for a visit to the exhibition that marks the first edition of the Month of Architecture of Maia.

Dedicated to the architect João Álvaro Rocha, the exhibition is composed of sketches, technical drawings, photos and models - and even though, as an architect, I visit this exhibition with all the care and admiration, I like to think that, even those who don't share this taste on a professional level, are able to find here reasons to look in a different way to the built world that surrounds them.

During the month there were also debates and guided tours, but if you didn't arrive in time, just like me, at least take the opportunity to see the exhibition - the trace of João Álvaro Rocha speaks for itself!

Chaves // Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso

O Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso foi só mais um pretexto para escolher Chaves como destino para um fim-de-semana prolongado, uma simpática cidade transmontana que ainda não conhecia.

O Museu, projecto de Álvaro Siza, foi inaugurado no Verão do ano passado e estende-se junto ao rio, bem perto do centro. Eleva-se do solo para permitir a passagem e algumas brincadeiras fotográficas entre as enigmáticas lâminas com recortes geométricos ao nível do solo, que, aparentemente aleatórias, parecem trazer para a arquitectura as linhas cinéticas das pinturas de Nadir, num jogo de ângulos, direcções, enfiamentos e sombras.

Os percursos são pensados para se poder admirar o edifício como um todo, ao longo da sua fachada eminentemente horizontal, que se repercute no interior através dos rasgos que permitem acompanhar a paisagem envolvente enquanto admiramos as cidades geométricas de Nadir.

Na pintura de Nadir Afonso reconhecem-se arquitecturas e abstracções, fruto das suas vivências profissionais, das suas viagens, da sua forma de ver o mundo, com ordem e método, mas vastos horizontes.

Vale bem a pena a visita!

Como o centro é pequeno e tudo se visita bem a pé, facilmente se passa um dia a visitar o Museu, o percurso ribeirinho que o liga ao jardim das termas, parando a meio para admirar a ponte romana sobre o Tâmega e subindo depois até ao Castelo pela Rua Direita, que nesta altura é fria, mas vem acompanhada de música de Natal.

Não podem ainda deixar de fazer várias pausas pelo caminho para provar e repetir os famosos pastéis de Chaves que, sem dúvida, aqui sabem muito melhor!

The Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art was just another excuse to choose Chaves as a destination for a long weekend, a friendly city in the north of Portugal that I didn't know yet.

The Museum, a project by Álvaro Siza, was inaugurated in the summer of last year and extends near the river, very close to the center. It rises from the ground to allow passage and some photographic tricks between the enigmatic walls with geometric cutouts in the ground-level, that may appear to be placed by chance, but seem to bring to the architecture the kinetic lines of Nadir's paintings in a game of angles, directions and shadows.

The paths are designed to be able to admire the building as a whole, along its eminently horizontal façade, which is reflected in the interior through the openings that allow to see the surrounding landscape while admiring the geometric cities of Nadir.

Nadir Afonso's painting is filled with architectures and abstractions, fruit of his professional experiences, his travels, his way of seeing the world, with order and method, but vast horizons.

Well worth the visit!

As the center is small and everything is easily visited on foot, it's easy to spend a day visiting the Museum, the riverside route that connects it to the garden of the thermal spa, stopping to admire the Roman bridge over the Tâmega and then ascending to the Castle by Rua Direita, which at this point is cold, but comes with Christmas music.

One must, of course, make several stops along the way to taste and repeat the famous Pastéis de Chaves (a local delicacy of puff pastry and meat), that, without doubt, tastes a lot better here!

Bienal de Cerveira

2017 é ano de Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira!

E eu, que depois de tantos anos a pensar no assunto, nunca lá tinha ido, acabei por redimir-me este ano. São imensos os espaços de actividades e exposição, vale bem a pena um looooongo dia de passeio - ou vários.

Desta vez ficou a faltar uma visita à Casa do Artista Jaime Isidoro, mas acho que é sempre bom ficar com pretextos para voltar.

Se estiverem pelo Norte de Portugal, aproveitem também as férias de Verão para uma visita!

2017 is the year of International Art Biennial of Cerveira!

And I, who after so many years of thinking about it, had never gone there, finally redeemed myself this year. There are lots of activities and exhibition spaces, it's really worth a looooong day of walking around - or several.

This time I missed the visit to the House of Artist Jaime Isidoro, but I guess it's always good to have excuses to return.

If you happen to be around the North of Portugal, enjoy the summer holidays for a visit too!

Open House Porto

Sim, o ritmo de publicação neste blog está cada vez mais irregular... a tentação para ceder ao imediatismo efémero do facebook e instagram é grande, mas mesmo assim, continuo a insistir nesta espécie de diário, mais visual do que escrito apesar de tudo, em que gosto de guardar imagens (daquelas tiradas com a máquina fotográfica) e momentos mais especiais.

Então, mesmo já tendo passado quase três semanas, parece-me que ainda vou a tempo de partilhar algumas visitas realizadas durante o fim-de-semana dedicado ao Open House Porto, uma iniciativa fantástica para quem é um fã incondicional de arquitectura ou simplesmente curioso. Uma oportunidade para olhar de outro modo para edifícios que nos rodeiam, entrar em espaços muitas vezes vedados ao público, ouvir o arquitecto falar do seu próprio projecto... são muitos os motivos para aderir a este evento que cada vez tem mais sucesso e todos eles são bons.

Não consegui visitar todas as obras que queria, mas este ano visitei várias! Das favoritas ficam a nova Sede da OASRN, o I3S e as recuperações de antigos armazéns na Rua de Miraflor. 

Há dois anos tirei algumas fotos fantásticas no Antigo Matadouro do Porto, lembram-se?

E para o ano há mais!

Yes, the pace of publication in this blog is increasingly irregular... the temptation to give in to the ephemeral immediacy of facebook and instagram is great, but even so, I still insist on this kind of diary, more visual than written, in which I like to keep images (those taken with a camera) and special moments.

So even though it's been almost three weeks, it seems to me that I'm in time to share some visits during the weekend dedicated to Open House Porto, a fantastic initiative for anyone who is an unconditional fan of architecture or just curious about it. An opportunity to look in a different way to buildings around us, enter spaces that are often closed to the public, listen to the architect speaking of his own project... there are many reasons to join this increasingly successful event and each one of them is good.

I wasn't able to visit all the projects I wanted, but this year I visited a lot! Among the favorites are the new Headquarters of OASRN, the I3S and the recovered old warehouses in the Street of Miraflor.

Two years ago I took some fantastic photos in the Old Slaughterhouse of Porto, remember?

And there's more next year!

Desta vez o aniversário foi celebrado de maneira diferente!

17 de Junho coincidiu com a data de Open Day no Tincal lab, por isso este dia acabou por ser um 2 em 1, entre a passagem dos meus 37 anos e a celebração do segundo aniversário do atelier, que abriu mais ou menos por esta altura em 2015. Lembram-se?

Foi um dia de muito calor, flores, bolo, brindes, surpresas e visitas de amigos.

Posso ter estado no meu local de trabalho, mas foi sem dúvida um dia de festa!

E quem não pôde vir brindar connosco no Sábado pode agora visitar a exposição colectiva Branco | White durante a semana, entre as 10h e as 19h. Estamos na Rua de Cedofeita, 27, 2º frente. Até já!

This time my birthday was celebrated in a different way!

June 17th coincided with the Open Day at Tincal lab, so this day ended up being a 2 in 1, between the passage of my 37 years and the celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the atelier, that opened around this date on 2015. Remember?

It was a hot day, filled with flowers, cake, toasts, surprises and visits from friends.

I may have been at my place of work, but it was definitely a party day!

And if you couldn't come to toast with us you can now visit the collective exhibition Branco | White on weekdays, between 10am and 7pm. We're at Rua de Cedofeita, 27, 2nd floor front, in Porto. See you!

Quinta do Vallado

Começo a semana com um regresso à Quinta do Vallado, para uma experiência que irá certamente agradar aos amantes do vinho, da arquitectura, ou, melhor ainda, se forem como eu: das duas coisas!

A Quinta do Vallado, construída em 1716, é uma das Quintas mais antigas do Vale do Douro e mantém-se ainda hoje na família da famosa Ferreirinha. Situa-se nas margens do Rio Corgo, um afluente do Rio Douro, muito perto do Peso da Régua.

A ampliação do Hotel e Adega da Quinta do Vallado, desenvolvida entre 2007 e 2010 pelo arquitecto Francisco Vieira de Campos (Menos é Mais), demonstra como uma intervenção atenta ao detalhe e às características particulares do terreno consegue responder eficaz e harmoniosamente a necessidades logísticas e de integração na paisagem. Na adega, as fases de produção do vinho sucedem-se por gravidade, desde as vinhas em socalcos no topo até à cave de barricas, que as alberga como uma grande e gulosa barriga de betão. O volume ora se encosta ora se suspende, afirma-se com arestas serpenteantes, mas faz parte do terreno com a mesma naturalidade das linhas horizontais que desenham as curvas de nível, cuidada integração acentuada pelo uso do xisto, pedra característica da região e tão expressiva em texturas e cores.

Não percam a oportunidade de relaxar enquanto admiram cada detalhe e, claro, de provar o vinho!

I start the week with a return to Quinta do Vallado, for an experience that will surely please wine lovers, architecture lovers, or, better still, if you're like me: lovers of both!

Quinta do Vallado, built in 1716, is one of the oldest estates in the Douro Valley and still remains in the family of the famous Ferreirinha. It's located on the banks of River Corgo, a tributary of Douro River, very close to Peso da Régua.

The extension of the Hotel and Winery of Quinta do Vallado, developed between 2007 and 2010 by architect Francisco Vieira de Campos (Menos é Mais), demonstrates how an intervention careful to detail and the particular characteristics of the land is able to answer effectively to logistical needs and to the harmonious integration in the landscape. In the winery, the stages of wine production succeed by gravity, from the vineyards in terraces on top to the cellar, that houses the wine barrels as a large and greedy belly of concrete. The volume either leans or hangs, but is part of the terrain with the same naturalness of the horizontal lines that draw contour lines, integration that is accentuated by the use of shale, a characteristic stone of the region that is so expressive in textures and colors.

Don't miss the opportunity to relax while admiring every detail and, of course, to taste the wine!

No Sábado passado foi apresentada a minha Colecção Tubular na loja scar-id, no Porto!

A fantástica montra desta loja para os amantes da moda e do design na Rua do Rosário foi ocupada pelas peças rectilíneas e geométricas da mais recente colecção de joalharia Ana Pina.

A nova Colecção Tubular combina fios e tubos de secção redonda de forma subtil, dando origem a peças simultaneamente minimalistas e capazes de se destacar, que celebram linhas geométricas puras e as suas múltiplas possibilidades de combinação.

Last Saturday my Tubular Collection was presented at scar-id store, in Porto!

The amazing storefront of this perfect store for lovers of fashion and design at Rua do Rosário was occupied by the rectlinear geometric pieces of the latest Ana Pina jewelry collection.

The new Tubular Collection combines round wires and tubes in a subtle way, creating both minimalist and statement pieces that aim to celebrate pure geometric lines and its multiple possibilities of combination.

If you are in Porto don't miss it!

And if you are in Brussels, visit ICKX, a contemporary jewelry Gallery, which is also featuring some pieces of this new collection integrated in the exhibition that opened last Sunday.

Lisboa | MAAT

E desde que o MAAT foi inaugurado em Outubro que não há viagem a Lisboa que não passe por lá.

Esta não foi excepção e eram muitas as pessoas que, como nós, passeavam e paravam para admirar as belas curvas da fachada do aerodinâmico edifício contra as cores do Tejo.

No interior do edifício projectado por Amanda Levete Architects apenas a galeria oval estava aberta, mas depois de ver o pôr-do-sol nos degraus enquadrados pelo padrão de azulejos que parecem querer rivalizar com o brilho espelhado do nosso Terminal de Cruzeiros, ainda valeu a pena ficar a conhecer a Central Tejo e a exposição sobre o duo maravilha Charles e Ray Eames.

And since MAAT was inaugurated in October there is no trip to Lisbon that misses a stop here.

This was no exception and there were many people who, like us, strolled and stopped to admire the beautiful curves of the facade of the aerodynamic building against the colors of Tagus river.

Inside the building designed by Amanda Levete Architects only the oval gallery was open, but after seeing the sunset on the steps framed by the pattern of tiles that seem to rival the mirrored glow of our Cruise Terminal, it was still worth the visit to Central Tejo and the exhibition about the wonder duo Charles and Ray Eames.

A última ida a Lisboa foi já no início de Novembro passado. Desde aí uma lista de tarefas sem fim, eventos, festas e celebrações tem-se sobreposto à vontade de partilhar finalmente as fotos da viagem!

Foi uma viagem em trabalho, mas quando gostamos do que fazemos as viagens de trabalho são também um prazer.

O pretexto inicial da visita foi a intervenção na loja re_mind, um espaço muito simpático na Lx Factory onde podem ver ao vivo uma selecção do meu trabalho de joalharia, mas um ou dois dias passaram a quatro e daí até se tornar numa espécie de visita de estudo para conhecer sítios novos e inspiradores foi um passo!

Começando pela própria LX Factory, carregada de cafés e lojas que valem a pena a visita, passando por zonas que ainda não conhecia, como o Príncipe Real, o Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara e a marginal até à Fundação Champalimaud, até chegar a outras de passagem obrigatória, mas agora com novos motivos para uma paragem: os Terraços do Carmo (a intervenção de Siza que vem finalmente terminar o que foi começado com a reabilitação do Chiado) ou o Arco da Rua Augusta, que agora pude subir.

Foi também altura de finalmente visitar galerias e espaços de trabalho fantásticos dedicados à joalharia: o atelier da querida Tânia Gil, o do Valentim Quaresma, as Galerias Reverso e Tereza Seabra, a Padaria 24... reencontrar amigos e colegas, como o Carlos Silva (obrigada pela visita guiada!) ou a minha querida Joana Mota Capitão - e ainda ficar a conhecer a Sandra do Colectivo 71.86.

Mas nem só a joalharia me inspira, por isso reservei ainda tempo para a minha paixão arquitectónica: espreitar as curvas do MAAT, visitar o Museu dos Coches e o Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar... mas sobre estes três espaços falarei mais tarde!

The last trip to Lisbon was already in early November. Since then a list of endless tasks, events, parties and celebrations has prevented me to finally share the photos of the trip!

The mainly reason for the trip was work, but when we enjoy what we do, work trips are also a pleasure.

The initial pretext of the visit was the intervention in the store re_mind, a very nice space in Lx Factory where you can see a selection of my jewelry live, but one or two days turned to four and from there until it became a kind of study visit to get to know new and inspiring places was a step!

Beginning with LX Factory itself, full of cafes and shops that are worth the visit, passing through areas that I didn't know very well, such as Príncipe Real, Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara and the riverside until reaching Champalimaud Foundation, and other mandatory and well-known places, but now with new reasons for a stop: Terraços do Carmo (the intervention of Siza that finally concludes the project of rehabilitation of Chiado) or the Arco da Rua Augusta, that now I could climb to the top.

It was also time to finally visit galleries and fantastic workspaces dedicated to jewelry: the studio of dear Tânia Gil, of Valentim Quaresma, Galleries Reverso and Tereza Seabra, Padaria 24... to be with some friends and colleagues, like Carlos Silva (thank you for the guided tour!) or my dear Joana Mota Capitão - and even meeting Sandra from Colectivo 71.86.

But not only the jewelry inspires me, so I still reserved some time for my architectural passion: admiring the curves of MAAT, visiting Museu dos Coches and Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar... but I'll show you more about these three spaces later!

Mercado Municipal de Amarante // Januário Godinho

Quando visitei o Mercado Municipal de Amarante há anos atrás, no contexto da Faculdade, o edifício estava vazio e só a arquitectura de Januário Godinho enchia o espaço. Desta vez era dia de mercado e as vozes e as cores das gentes, roupas, frutas e hortaliças invadiam a estrutura.

Há algo no movimento das feiras e mercados que fascina. Vontade de tocar, cheirar e trazer ramos de flores, caixas de cores com sabor a fruta, couves de folhas maiores e mais vívidas do que as do supermercado. Revirar roupas e olhar com detalhe para a oferta de utensílios de metal, madeira, tecidos.

O edifício parecia agora talvez mais pequeno, mais baixo, menos imponente face à ocupação humana num contexto de compra e venda indiferente à assinatura da estrutura que o alberga. Pequeno na verdade para tamanha ocupação - as bancas alastram e a organicidade dos toldos compete com o ritmo recortado da cobertura metálica do mercado, preenchendo os espaços circundantes que parecem não chegar para o labirinto de passagens estreitas e as enormes carrinhas que não se sabe muito bem como foram ali parar.

Para ver o outro lado do rio é preciso sair do emaranhado de vendedores e descer escadas estreitas, quase por os sapatos na água, quase tocar na relva molhada e olhar em frente - e vale bem a pena.

When I visited the Municipal Market of Amarante years ago, in the context of college, the building was empty and only the architecture by Januário Godinho filled the space. This time it was market day and the voices and colors of people, clothes, fruits and vegetables invaded the structure.

There is something in the movement of fairs and markets that fascinates. The will to touch, smell and bring bouquets of flowers, color boxes with fruit flavor, sprouts with larger and more vivid leaves than the ones bought in the supermarket. Turn around clothes and look in detail at the supply of tools in metal, wood, fabrics.

The building now seemed perhaps smaller, lower, less imposing in the face of human occupation in the context of buying and selling, indifferent to the signature of the structure that houses it. Small indeed for such occupation - the stalls sprawl and the organic awnings compete with the cut rhythm of the metalic market ceiling, filling the surrounding spaces that don't seem big enough for the maze of narrow passages and huge vans that we wonder how were able to get there.

To see the other side of the river is necessary to leave the maze of vendors and go down narrow stairs, almost get the shoes in the water, almost touch the wet grass and look ahead - and is well worth it.

Amarante

Apesar do dia ser de chuva, a vontade era de partir. Não podia ser para muito longe e no mapa as novas paragens começam a escassear, por isso rumamos a Amarante.

A minha última visita tinha sido já há alguns anos, no contexto da Faculdade - para visitar e fotografar obras de Januário Godinho (o mercado) e Alcino Soutinho (ampliação do Museu Amadeo de Souza Cardoso) - mas desta vez o passeio não tinha qualquer objectivo definido: apenas um carro, uma máquina fotográfica, o tempo por nossa conta e a vontade de o preencher com novos horizontes.

Em Amarante é inevitável o passeio à beira-rio, desta vez bastante cheio (mas ainda longe das assustadoras marcas de cheias nas paredes de edifícios no centro histórico), a entrada no Convento de São Gonçalo e a subida à Igreja de São Domingos para admirar as vistas.

O almoço foi no famoso Zé da Calçada e a sobremesa na simpática sala do piso superior do Gito, mas por aqui os pretextos para ceder ao pecado da gula não faltam.

O regresso foi feito ao longo do rio Douro desde o Peso da Régua, de onde não voltamos sem os deliciosos rebuçados e um arco-iris.

Although the day was rainy, the will was to leave. It couldn't be to far away and new stops in the map are become scarce, so we head to Amarante.

My last visit had been for some years, in the context of architecture college - to visit and photograph buildings by Januário Godinho (the market) and Alcino Soutinho (expansion of Amadeo de Souza Cardoso Museum) - but this time the tour had no purpose set: only one car, a camera, time on our hands and the will to fill it with new horizons.

In Amarante is inevitable a stroll along the waterfront, this time quite high (but still far from the frightening flood marks on the walls of buildings in the historic center), the entrance at the Convent of São Gonçalo and the ascent to the Church of São Domingos to admire the views.

Lunch was at the famous Zé da Calçada and dessert in the friendly top floor room of Gito, but here the pretexts to give in to the sin of gluttony abound.

The return was made along the Douro river from Peso da Régua, from where we didn't return without the famous candy and a rainbow.

Museu de Serralves

O Museu de Serralves deixou de ter entrada gratuita todos os Domingos de manhã, para passar a ser gratuito apenas na manhã do primeiro Domingo do mês.

Ontem estava uma enchente, mas nem por isso quisemos deixar passar a oportunidade de ir ver as exposições. Embora o nome mais sonante fosse a Sonnabend Collection, com as obras de Warhol, Oldenburg ou Lichtenstein, foi a exposição No Limiar da Visibilidade de Wolfgang Tillmans que mais tempo dediquei a admirar.

O horizonte, a cor, o céu e o mar.

Serralves Museum is no longer free every Sunday morning, now you have free entry only in the morning of the first Sunday of the month.

Yesterday it was full of people, but we didn't want to miss the exhibitions. Even though the stonger name was of the Sonnabend Collection, with its Warhol, Oldenburg or Lichtenstein, it was the exhibition On the Verge of Visibility by Wolfgang Tillmans that took me longer to admire.

The horizon, the color, the sky, the sea.
