Por esta altura já quase toda a gente deve ter ouvido falar nos Passadiços do Paiva.
Embora tenham inaugurado há pouco mais de um mês, são já famosos e quem ainda não foi faz planos para ir - e com razão.
Nós não quisemos ficar atrás e eu, pessoa pouco dada a caminhadas e com mais tendência para cansar-me a percorrer trilhos de terra do que calçadas citadinas, fiz questão de reunir todas as energias para um encontro com a natureza ao longo de um longo Domingo de Verão, num misto de passeio descontraído de descoberta e intenso exercício físico... e valeu bem a pena!
Situado em pleno Arouca Geopark, reconhecido pela Unesco como Património Geológico da Humanidade, este é um percurso linear de cerca de 8km, entre as praias fluviais de Areinho e Espiunca, ao longo da margem esquerda do Rio Paiva. As paisagens são deslumbrantes, sobretudo chegados à diferença de cotas mais acentuada - ou seja, o troço de maior dificuldade é proporcionalmente recompensado pelas vistas e pelas muitas merecidas paragens para tirar fotos, por isso não se preocupem, que não se vão arrepender.
Vimos muitas crianças pequenas a percorrer os Passadiços e o passeio faz-se bem, mas não é fácil, por isso vão preparados, para conseguirem aproveitar a experiência ao máximo. Escusado será dizer que se aconselha roupa e calçado apropriado, protector solar, alguma comida para recuperar forças pelo caminho e água, muita água. Não é aconselhável carregar muito peso, mas não abdiquem também da máquina fotográfica.
O ideal será ir durante a semana (a fama inesperada trouxe também muita gente à região!) num dia que não seja de muito calor - embora tenha muitas zonas de sombra, o percurso é puxado por ser longo - mas também não escolham um dia demasiado cinzento, porque vale bem a pena pontuar o passeio com um ou outro mergulho numa das pequenas praias fluviais que se distribuem estrategicamente pelo início, meio e fim do caminho.
Se forem em grupo e levarem dois carros podem fazer o percurso apenas de ida (ou então apanhar um táxi para regressar ao ponto de partida), mas se fizerem como nós e corajosamente decidirem ir e vir a pé, saibam que vão ter que percorrer quase 18km ao longo de cerca de 5 horas, por isso vão com tempo, para que o passeio não fique pela metade ou se transforme num indesejado contra-relógio.

By now almost everyone must have heard about Paiva Walkways - at least in Portugal, I mean.
Although they opened just over a month ago, they're already famous and those who haven't been there yet, are planning to go - and they're right.
We didn't want to be left behind and I, a person not exactly given to hiking and more prone to get tired while walking on dirt tracks than city sidewalks, made sure to gather all my energy for a meeting with nature over a long summer Sunday, in a mix of casual path of discovery and intense physical exercise... and it was well worth it!
Located in Arouca Geopark, recognized by UNESCO as Geological Heritage of Humanity, this is a linear distance of about 8km, between river beaches of Areinho and Espiunca along the left bank of River Paiva. The landscapes are breathtaking, especially when arriving to the steeper part of the walkway - that is, the part of greatest difficulty is proportionally rewarded by the sights and the well-deserved stops to take photos, so don't worry.
We saw many small children going through the walkways and the path is manageable, but it's not easy, so go prepared in advance, so you're able to enjoy the experience to the fullest. Needless to say, it's advisable to wear proper clothing and footwear, take sunscreen, some food to regain strength along the way and water, lots of water. You shouldn't carry too much weight, but don't forget to take your camera too.
Ideally, go during the week (the unexpected fame also brought too many people to the region!) in a not so hot day - although there are many shadow areas, the route is a bit hard because it's long - but don't choose a day too gray either, because it's well worth to punctuate the tour with a swim in the small river beaches that are strategically distributed at the beginning, middle and end of the walk.
If you go in group and take two cars you can take the route one-way (or else take a taxi to return to the starting point), but if, like us, you're bold enough to decide to go and return on foot, know you'll have almost 18km over about 5 hours ahead, so go with time, otherwise you may give up in the middle or turn what should be a calm walk into an undesirable time trial.
